Things you look for when hiring

Over the years, I've iterated and fine-tuned my criteria & traits for hiring talent in any role, borrowed from 2 of my favorite leaders, Warren Buffett & Indra Nooyi.

Buffett looks for 3 things, generally, in a person: Intelligence, energy, and integrity, and Nooyi looks for courage in addition to the above 3.
But one key trait that's non-negotiable (and sometimes hard to evaluate during interviews) is integrity.
Buffett says, “You’re looking for three things, generally, in a person. Intelligence, energy, and integrity. And if they don’t have the last one, don’t even bother with the first two. I tell them, ‘Everyone here has the intelligence and energy—you wouldn’t be here otherwise. But the integrity is up to you. You weren’t born with it, you can’t learn it in school.”
